Bus lane proposal on High Street Doncaster.

Yet another bus lane to further restrict the flow of cars in the Manningham area. Fifteen per cent of the travelling public to further disadvantage the 85% of local residents who use cars. Traffic flow should be improved for everyone, not just for government run facilities. Then bus lanes wouldn’t be required.

VicRoads is proposing to install a part-time bus lane on High Street, Doncaster later in 2012. The bus lane will run southbound from north of Stutt Avenue to Doncaster Road and will operate from 7am-9am and 4pm-7pm, Monday to Friday.... Read More

I'd highly recommend anyone living in the area of High Street Doncaster, or those using the road where the bus lane will be implemented, to check the plans.

The bus lane recently implemented on Foote Street Templestowe is a disaster created by VicRoads. The median strip was removed so cars now have to speed across up to six lanes of very busy traffic to get out of Hawtin Street.

One resident is terrified to drive out of the area feeling it is so dangerous. Cars using Hawtin Street as a rat-run block the exit at Porter Street causing long delays.

The real irony is buses are held up by the red turn light. If the bus is sitting at the lights it gets priority which is what is wanted. However if the bus comes along when the two lanes of cars get the right arrow the bus is stopped with a red bus light. The bus should be able to proceed when the cars turn as there are three lanes in Williamsons Road. A bus lane to speed up the bus and then a right turn light to stop it.

Multiple people have now raised partitions and had meetings (including with the Member for Bulleen) but the bottom line is once the change is done, getting anything fixed is unlikely.

The only thing the government is interested in is their own facilities such as their bus lanes. Residents and other road users come a distant last.

Make sure you make your voice heard. The residents in the Templestowe area were made aware of the change and the danger of the change by a leaflet drop I did at my own expense. The residents in Templestowe didn't bother and now they're paying the price.
